A TALE OF TWO SNEAKERS

IMGP8768

How does one get back into blogging after an unplanned 3 month hiatus?

One proverbial foot in front of the other. Preferably in stylish, ethical shoes.

These are two pairs of ethical sneakers that are currently on high rotation in my wardrobe:

L: Veja Low Esplar Fairtrade Trainers available from Fashion-Conscience for £47.60GBP (on sale from £68.00GBP!)
R: Etiko White Lowcuts for $90.00AUD

ETIKO WHITE LOWCUTS

Ethical credentials: Made in a Fairtrade factory from Fairtrade materials

How great are these ethical equivalents of a well known brand? Entirely vegan, Etiko shoes are made entirely using Fairtrade materials in an accredited Fairtrade factory!

It’s no wonder that these sneakers have been named Fairtrade Speciality Product of the Year – check out these ethical credentials: The sole is made from sustainable latex, free from petro-chemicals. The canvas and laces are made with cotton which has not one but two certifications – GOTS and Fairtrade. The dyes used on the canvas are PCP and AZO free. Etiko even put some thought into the shoe box – it’s made from post-consumer waste.

Etiko pays a social premium to both the rubber producers in Sri Lanka and to the shoe stitchers in Pakistan.

VEJA ESPLAR TRAINERS

Ethical credentials: Made with transparency in a fair trade arrangement in Brazil

Veja trainers are available in so many different colours. I love this graphite, black and white pair – the ‘Esplar’ – which are named after the NGO which brings technical support to the organic cotton farming families Veja works with in North Brazil. Made with organic cotton, wild rubber from the Amazon and vegetable-tanned leather.

Both super comfy, and at very reasonable price points, I can’t recommend these two pairs of sneakers enough. And since they’re so stylish and versatile, I’m sure you’ll love them as much as I do!

Yours Fairly,

Ashlee
